Magnetic content is the key to digital marketing success

magnetic content

Many website owners are constantly wondering whether their website’s content is up to standards by Google to get those hard-earned trusted organic rankings on the search results. Google has been quite busy over the last couple of months, and I must say, it’s quite interesting to see all the remarks of all the SEO “gurus” and “ninjas” when a new algorithm update is looming.

Even though the SEO game changes every year and we are basically in the hands of Google, one thing has always stayed the same – quality magnetic content is key with digital marketing. Not just any content, but “magnetic content“. I use that term because it describes exactly what it is – “magnetic”. Your content should not only attract the search engines, but your target audience as well that can share your content with their own circles.

I know that it sounds easier than it really is, but once you start only focusing on “magnetic content”, it gets really easy. Find below a couple of tips on how to make sure your content stand out and how it can help you with your digital marketing campaign.

Relevance

The most important aspect with magnetic content and link building is relevance. Buying traffic, followers, and likes doesn’t work because it’s never relevant. When publishing new content online, blog posts or social media updates, always make sure it is relevant to your target audience and not just the search engines. Targeting the search engines does work, but it’s pointless if you are not getting any targeted results from your content. Always create magnetic content for your target audience and don’t play the numbers game.

Unique

Being unique with your content is a key point with digital marketing. Being unique is an important function in gaining attraction on the digital web and the search engines. Your magnetic content should be written by real humans for people who will be interested in reading your content. If you are in a competitive marketplace, publishing unique content can help you stand out from your competitors. Google also places more importance in unique content.

Social media content

Social media plays a big role with digital marketing these days and various “social signals” have been integrated into Google’s algorithm. As explained above, buying followers and likes in your campaign doesn’t work. Rather, create relevant interesting content that your readers will find engaging and share along with their own network. If your content is magnetic, it can turn into a snowball and be read, shared, and commented on by hundreds of people. There’s no better way of getting your content across the web than through people who are engaged with your magnetic content.

Other content

With your online marketing campaign, don’t focus on only blog posts and website content. There are many other ways you can use “magnetic content” online such as videos, audio, ebook files, and presentations. There are many other methods that you can use with your “magnetic content” and videos is most likely the best. Creating video tutorials and help files in using your products or services is a great way of attracting interested people to your business. Rich media content such as videos can also be used on basically all the other digital marketing channels you are using.

    Hi Anton,

To quote you: “Even though the SEO game changes every year and we are basically in the hands of Google, one thing has always stayed the same – quality magnetic content is key with digital marketing”

Personally – Yes, No matter if you are making use of Digital or Traditional marketing methods (even both for that matter) having content in your marketing formula (strategy) that is appealing, useful, relevant and most of all unique (“Magnetic”) is one of the best ways to increase the amount of successful potential in a business marketing strategy.

So true and I don’t think it will change anytime soon. This doesn’t just apply to text content, but rich media content as well.

    Hey Anton,

Unique content. I’ve heard that Google likes unique content and that if there is duplicate content, it is penalisable (not a word, and probably too strong). However, I have seen my competitors surpass me in search and when I investigate, they have the same article everywhere on the various directories, article sites and PR sites. This means that they are not being penalised for having duplicate content. So, the question is, can I write a ‘unique’ article and then spread it all over the show and still get good rankings (of course, assuming I have the right keywords and it is set up properly).

It might work for a short while, but in the long run it will hurt your rankings. There is a very thin line between white hat and black hat SEO and what used to work a few months ago won’t anymore. If you want to play the SEO game, play it safe. Did you get my skype message? When can we talk?
